Brief Introduction to Badaling Great Wall
The Great Wall is the symbol of the Chinese nation.
Badaling Great Wall-the most outstanding symbol of the Great Wall of China and of the Great Wall built in Ming Dynasty.
Badaling Great Wall is located in Yanqing County, 60 km from Beijing City. It holds the throat linking Northwest China to Beijing. The 8^th northern tower, the highest one, is 888 meters above sea level. It is of great strategic importance in defending Beijing. It has always been hailed as “the key to the north door”. It has been open to tourists home and abroad since 1953. The present part open to tourists is 3741 meters.
In 1961, Badaling Great Wall was listed as one of the Important Cultural Relics under national protection. In 1982, Badaling Great Wall was appraised by the State Council as one of the National Scenic Areas. In 1987, it was listed by UNESCO as one of the world cultural heritage sites. In 1991, Badaling Great Wall, as the symbol of the Great Wall of China in general, received the Certificate of Human Cultural Heritage issued by UNESCO. In Dec. 1991, it was ranked as the first and primary one among the top 40 best tourist destinations of China. In 2002, Badaling Great Wall was honored with two World Guinness Records: one was the Great Wall section that had received the most tourists; and the other was the Great Wall section that had received the most national leaders. In 2007, Badaling Great Wall was hailed as the top one among the new seven world wonders.
